Things to do in London with kids during February Half Term
Half term is almost here and it’s time to keep moody teens and energetic little tots entertained. Keep reading to browse through our favourite picks that are perfect for quality family time.
Spend a day at the museum. If your child ever thought a trip to the museum was boring, it’s time to head over to the Natural History Museum. ‘Investigate for families’ is a drop in event that will give kids a feel for how scientists work by letting them explore real nature specimen. The free event is a great one to spur your child’s curiosity for science whilst having fun inspecting real objects with the tools provided. If sharks sound more exciting to your kid, let them learn how Greenland sharks live up to 400 years with their extreme adaptation skills at ‘Extreme Sharks’, a free event hosted on 11th February. If insects and sharks were not your little ones cup of tea, why not indulge in some storytelling at an interactive puppet show?
Explore the Silk Road. Wow the young ones at the Magic Lantern Festival at Chiswick House and Gardens. Observe the colourful spectacle and soak in the oriental culture. With a ‘silk road’ theme to it this year, the combination of illuminated inflatables, pop-up ice bar, an ice rink and a fleet of food stalls, make it a great way to spend a dark winter evening.
Visit the Lions’ Den. London Zoo launched ‘Land Of The Lions’ in March last year, an Indian village setup with four Asiatic lions as its residents. Designed to resemble the Gir Forest, it’s the perfect educational trip for the entire family especially if you share a mutual admiration for big cats. From spanning extensive walkways to helping the veterinary team in an emergency mock up, it’s an all-encompassing wildlife experience with an introduction to western India.
Consider a Children’s Festival. From theatre and literature to music and fun workshops, the Imagine Festival at Southbank Centre is the ultimate event to let kids explore their creativity this half-term. Children get to listen to their favourite authors and even join in as cardboard cars in family-friendly performances! Complete with a screening of The Little Mermaid, you won’t want to miss out on this immersive event with a Nordic theme to it.
If you are out and about enjoying half term in London, why not rest your legs at The Rembrandt after a long day? You could grab a quick bite in the 1606 Lounge Bar, tuck into a 3-course meal at The Palette Restaurant or enjoy a refreshing Afternoon Tea as a pick-me-up.
