London is a beautiful and exciting place to visit in the summer, especially as the days are becoming longer and evenings are getting warmer. London is bursting with activities to keep children busy during the summer holidays. As a parent, it might be tricky to keep your child entertained all summer on a budget. This August, a child aged 16 or under can get FREE theatre tickets to selected London performances when they’re accompanied by a full-paying adult. There is a huge selection of shows to choose from such as Wicked, School of Rock, Matilda and The Book of Mormon. Longines Global Champions Tour
The Longines Global Champions Tour brings together the top show jumpers in the world to compete across three days. This year the iconic champions tour returns to the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Catch the world’s top riders and horses in action during the 13th leg of the world’s most prestigious show jumping series. Choose a grandstand seat for the best views of the thrilling action, find plenty of family fun in the children zones and browse the stalls in the Exhibition Village. Kids under 10 go free while adult tickets start from £6 per person.
Film4 Summer Screen at Somerset House
Watch modern and classic movies under starry summer skies with Film4 Summer Screen open-air film festival at Somerset House. The stunning Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court provides the setting to London’s largest screen set against Somerset House, which itself has provided the backdrop to many movies. Choose from a mixed programme of UK premieres, old favourites and Cannes award-winning films in full surround sound. Films include, The Wizard of Oz, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Call Me By Your Name.
Join London’s biggest street party as Notting Hill Carnival fills the streets of west London with Caribbean colours music and flavours. Watch the exciting floats and colourful costumed performers wind their way through the streets in the carnival parade, dance to the sound of steel bands and calypso music, and visit the tempting food stalls along the way. The event takes place each year on the last weekend of August, including the bank holiday Monday. This year the carnival takes place on the 25th 26th and 27th August.
London is full of relaxing parks where children can play and enjoy the sunshine. Hyde Park offers a vast area where kids can roam around and discover nature close at hand. There are a wide range of activities for kids to choose from throughout the whole of summer, including Discovery Day – Meadow Madness, Walking Tour: Peter Pan, Music in the Park – Hyde Park Bandstand, and Sunset Safari.
