London Jazz Festival
Known as one of the best Jazz festivals in the world, EFG bring us the best of jazz with their festival, which takes place during 14th–23rd November – a host of jazz delights to suit all tastes.
Lokkhi Terra performs on Friday 14th at the Forge on Delancey Street, blending traditional with Afrobeat-Cuban-Bangladeshi sounds. For something really different get yourself down to London Arts Depot and join the Young Pilgrims with their rock-induced brass band and imaginative lyrics on Sunday 16th.
Mike Fletcher, penned as one of the best new voices on the jazz scene, is performing at the Barbican on Tuesday 18th together with Ollie Brice on bass and Jeff Williams on drums; definitely not to be missed. If the Silver Screen is your passion then Hailey Tuck will be performing classics from yesteryear at the Hippodrome on Wednesday 19th.
John McLaughlin and the 4th Dimension showcase at the London Southbank Centre on Thursday 20th. With his own imitable style, he brings a real sense of energy to his shows. For fantastic trumpeting skills don’t miss Roy Hargrove at Ronnie Scotts on Frith Street on Friday 21st.
If you are a budding young jazz player, then don’t miss out on Ollie Howell’s 90-minute workshop aimed at developing rhythm and music awareness on Saturday 22nd. One of the great closing acts of the festival is Yazz Ahmed Family Hafla, who will be performing at the Vortex, during the afternoon of Sunday 23rd bringing us original musical compilations inspired by her Arabic heritage.
