How to spend Christmas Day in London

Christmas is certainly the most wonderful time of the year, and there is no better place to spend Christmas Day than in London. Santa is not the only one who rests on Christmas Day after a busy year, London does too! It’s the one day where London feels quiet and still, so it’s the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in all things festive in London. Even if London comes to a halt on the 25th December, there are still plenty of things to explore.

Transport

Public transport is very limited around Christmas time and all tubes lines are not running on Christmas Day (For the first time in many years, they will continue to run on Boxing Day). But don’t fret, as it gives you time to walk off the turkey, grab your hats and scarfs and check out all the Christmas lights. There are alternative ways of getting around London and exploring the city. You can hop on a Santander Cycle and ride through London streets while the roads are quiet and less busy. Or you can cruise through London on The ‘Big Bus’ open top bus. You can board and get dropped off right outside The Rembrandt in Knightsbridge.

Christmas Walk

In some families, a Christmas walk is a tradition and is a great way to burn off those Christmas calories, plus make room for some more! London’s Royal Park’s remain open on Christmas Day, including Hype Park, Greenwich Park and Richmond Park. Hype Park is just a short walk from The Rembrandt and you can catch the annual Serpentine Swimmers on Christmas morning. The Serpentine Swimming Club Christmas Morning Race has been held every year since 1864. Find out more here.

Church services

Churches all over London will be running a service on Christmas Day but there may be too many to choose from. If you have one in mind, we recommend checking their service times before Christmas Day. The most popular services across London would be at Westminster Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and St Paul’s Cathedral, so get there early before the crowds.

Christmas Dinner

What is Christmas without an amazing Christmas Dinner! At The Rembrandt, we love cooking Christmas dinner so you don’t have to. Take the stress out of Christmas and leave it to us to fill your stomachs with a Christmas dinner you’ll remember. Dine with us in Knightsbridge and enjoy a 3 course festive lunch or dinner in Palette Restaurant, complete with a glass of bubbly on arrival, crackers and all the seasonal trimmings.
