August Bank Holiday Weekend in London
With less than 2 weeks to go until the August Bank Holiday Weekend, we’ve rounded up our best events around London to help you make the most of the last long weekend before Christmas. Whether you want to party the night away, explore the great outdoors or indulge in some culture at the theatre, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Notting Hill Carnival
Every August Bank Holiday Weekend the streets of West London come alive with Europe’s biggest street festival. The elaborate event sees London filled with Caribbean colours, music and flavours. Stunning costumed performers and spectacular floats will form the much anticipated parade, which will dance to the sounds of calypso music and steel bands. This year, the programme features a steel band music competition and family entertainment on Saturday, a traditional Caribbean carnival and the family parade on Sunday, finishing off with the Grand Finale on Monday.
Regents Park Open Air Theatre
The Open Air Theatre in Regent’s Park is the oldest professional, permanent, outdoor theatre in Britain and is a hit throughout the Summer for its range of theatre, music, comedy and film events. Over the August Bank Holiday Weekend the much-loved Jesus Christ Superstar returns to the theatre after last year’s sell-out success. The production will be running until 23rd September and features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice.
South West Four Festival
SW4 Festival is a large electronic music festival that takes place in Clapham Common every year. It was started in 2001 as an intimate gathering and has grown every year and is now a hugely popular event. This year big names such as Pendulum, Tinie Tempah, Deadmau5 and Eric Prydz will be taking to the stage to entertain the masses this August Bank Holiday Weekend. Saturday and weekend tickets are already sold out, but Sunday tickets are still available to purchase online.
Walala X Play
Camille Walala is an east-London based artist who has been filling the streets of London with playful patterns and bold colours. She has now launched her first ever 3D art installation, featuring an immersive maze of mirrors, patterns for an intense game of spot the difference, and vividly decorated ping pong tables to challenge your mates to a game. The unique event is currently available to visit at Now Gallery until 24th September.
Zip World London
Feel the wind in your hair and bring out your dare devil side on what promises to be the ‘world’s biggest and fastest zip line’. The 225 metre descent in central London starts by jumping from a 35 metre high tower in Archbishop’s Park and reaches speeds of 50mph. The zip wire is definitely not for the fainthearted, but thrill-seekers will be treated to amazing views of Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, the London Eye and the Shard.
